Dorm Areas Ikenberry Commons Hi folks! Today Ill be continuing my dorm series with Ikenberry Commons! With 9 separate halls to cover, lets get started! Overview:  Ikenberry Commons, aka the Ike or Six Pack, is known as the most social of the areas for several reasons: Its the dorm area with the most buildings, meaning it has the most people in one area compared to areas like ISR or FAR. Its located right by a lot of activity areas, including the Activities and Recreation Center (ARC), tennis courts, and soccer fields. Its just south of the main hub of a lot of Greek fraternities and sororities. In fact, theres a house right across from the Ike bus stop that sometimes blasts music on a nice sunny day. Its closest to Memorial Stadium, so if youre a big sports fan, its a plus to be right by the roaring crowds of football games. The Ike is generally a bustling area. Whether people are going to a nearby get-together,  going to 57 North (the in-dorm convenience store  you can spend credits at) for late-night munchies, or just coming back from the ARC after a good workout, youll see people at all times of day. Cautions: A couple halls still dont have air-conditioning or wireless internet. Make sure to check the Special Features section of any hall you might be interested in to see whats included, like the page for Nugent here. Speaking of Nugent, you shouldnt try applying for any newly constructed residence halls like Nugent or Bousfield. Why? Theyre the nicest halls, so upperclassmen will probably have grabbed all the open rooms. The second reason is that, even if by some miraculous luck you get a room in the new hall (were talking lottery luck hereâ€"virtually no chances), youll be surrounded by upperclassmen who already have established friend circles. Its much easier to make friends with fellow freshmen who are looking for friends like yourself, rather than upperclassmen who already have an established social routine. Not to say there wont be friendly peopleâ€"you just have to know yourself as a person and what kind of environment will make you feel comfortable. If youre someone who needs peace and quiet, the Ike  definitely isnt for you. Its hard to find small, personal areas where people arent present, and the Ike attracts all sorts of social butterflies. Its also the most crowded, which means long lines during peak hours at the dining hall. Perks:  The Ikes  dining hall serves some of the best food, despite how crowded it gets. For instance, there are avocados at the salad bar and multiple options for entrees like fried chicken or steak, and you can even order a customized milkshake. The gym (ARC) is right across the street, and if thats still far enough for you to make an excuse, theres another  small gym right inside the Ike next to the dining hall. The Ike also comes equipped with  music practice rooms which have upright pianos,  57 North is the most diversely stocked convenience store out of any of the other dorm a  la carte locations, and there are limitless lounges and tables to study at. Although you might sometimes find yourself shaking your head at a group of screaming people coming back from a night out, if youre a social person, you wont find another place more suited for making friends, finding a study buddy, or finding a group you can call your own to start living college with. Although Ive never lived at the Ike, I can say that like every other dorm, people have loved it or hated it, and I can see reasons for both sides. Hope this helps! ?? P.S. Before the Florida health department report or send in any information to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, they will make sure that his or her information is kept private, they will not disclose any personal information about the person who is tested positive for syphilis. Recently, studies have shown that income inequality has many connections that have caused the gap in the United States. According to the research I found, income inequality is connected to corruption, trade, wages of workers, and education. The world income inequality had declined since the twentieth century according to the studies found (Clark). Corruption falls increasing on low income individuals more than higher income individuals. Additionally, the trade theory suggests that the free trade might have level up the income inequality higher within countries by the different patterns of wages and demand for workers who are skilled and unskilled (Silva and Leichenko). For examples, the government couldn’t provide public goods like ed ucation and health that could help the low income individuals because of the tax system. This research shows that the higher income individuals have a better chance to bribe governments causing the gap in income inequality in the economy because they have the resources to do it. The trade theory research founded by Silva and Leichenko shows that by changing the patterns of the wages and demands for workers that are skilled and unskilled will affect the inequality of income. Most Americans believe that improving our system of education should be a top priority for government at the local, state, and Federal levels. Legislators, school boards, education professionals, parent groups, and community organizations are attempting to implement innovative ideas to rescue children from failing school systems, particularly in inner-city neighborhoods. Many of these groups support the voucher program. School vouchers might seem a relatively great way to increase the options poor parents have for educating their children, when in fact, vouchers pose as a serious threat to values that are vital to the health of American democracy. Implementation of voucher programs sends a clear message that we are giving up on public education. Even though vouchers would help some students, they will not help all. Public education is for all children, regardless of their religion, academic talents or their ability to pay. This policy has made public schools the backbone of American democracy, helping young people grow into responsible citizens. Supporters of the voucher program, include that the program offers parents a choice. In fact, vouchers only guarantee that some parents will have some taxpayers money to put towards a child†s private school tuition. No voucher system will cover the total cost of tuition, when tuition in a private school averages $10,000 per year, and the voucher totals less than $5,000. This leaves the parents still having to pay thousands of dollars, and most families cannot come up with the rest of the money to cover tuition costs. Voucher systems do not guarantee that every child who applies will be selected to attend the private school. Many religious schools currently reject two of every three children who apply. The only thing that vouchers guarantee is that taxes will go up. Taxpayers will be forced to foot the bill for the vouchers, but they will have to pick up the tab for a whole new bureaucracy, including hidden costs like transportation. Vouchers will also force taxpayers to support two entire education systems, public and private. To make things worse, no extra money will be given to the schools that desperately need taxpayers support. Being one of the most diverse countries in the world, the public school system stands as an institution that unifies Americans. Under the voucher program, our educational system, and our country would become more separated than it already is. With the help of taxpayers† dollars, private schools would be filled with wealthy and middle-class students, and the motivated students from inner cities. Some public schools would be left with fewer dollars to teach and the poorest of the poor and other students who, for one reason or another were not private school material. All these situations would hardly benefit public education. Many studies suggest that vouchers are good for public schools yet, there is little evidence that they will ultimately improve the quality of public education for those who need it most. Proposition 38 would change public education statewide without first experimenting to determine what type of state subsidy would lead to high quality education for most children. California†s public school enrollment exceeds 6 million, and the number of students willing to leave public schools in unknown, but there is an even smaller percentage of the number of spaces existing in private schools for these students willing to leave. In conclusion, school voucher programs undermine two great American traditions, universal public education and the separation of the church and state. Instead of embracing vouchers, communities across the country should dedicate themselves to finding solutions that will be available to every American school aged child. Voucher programs will not allow the parent to make the choice of what school their child attends, but the voucher school will make the choice in which what school students can attend. Voucher schools get the money that taxpayers† are paying for, these children to attend these private schools, but these children are still being rejected for many reasons. In this article, you can learn about how whales migrate and the longest distance a whale has migrated. About Migration Migration is the seasonal movement of animals from one place to another. Many species of whales migrate from feeding grounds to breeding grounds - some traveling long distances that may amount to thousands of miles. Some whales migrate latitudinally (north-south), some move between onshore and offshore areas, and some do both. Where Whales Migrate There are over 80 species of whales, and each has their own movement patterns, many of which are not yet fully understood. In general, whales migrate toward the colder poles in the summer and toward the more tropical waters of the equator in the winter. This pattern allows whales to take advantage of the productive feeding grounds in colder waters in the summer, and then when productivity lowers, to migrate to warmer waters and give birth to calves.   Do All Whales Migrate? A gray whale reported in 2015 broke all marine mammal migration records - she traveled from Russia to Mexico and back again. this was a distance of  13,988 miles in 172 days. Humpback whales also migrate far - one humpback was sighted off the Antarctic Peninsula in April 1986 and then resighted off Colombia in August 1986, which means it traveled over 5,100 miles. Whales are a wide-ranging species, and not all migrate as close to shore as gray whales and humpbacks.
